Michael Daw
Michael Daw was a senior Civil Servant in the Ministry of Defence for 36 years, responsible for Logistics Support of the Royal Navy. He specialised in support of the nation’s submarine nuclear deterrent, serving in Washington DC, the Clyde Submarine Base in Scotland and managing the Navy’s 1300-man technical and warehouse facility in Wiltshire; this had 10M Cubic Metres of storage and technical space, and an inventory of 250,000 items valued at £300M. Whilst in the USA he worked very closely with his US Navy and civilian counterparts and experienced at first hand the sophisticated management techniques developed for and ensuring the timely delivery and successes of both the American and British Fleet Ballistic Missile Systems.
He brought these techniques with him on his return to the UK and was responsible for developing his department’s performance analysis indicators and reporting systems. These induced significant improvements in the quality of service to the RN, together with cost savings.
Michael now serves as Director on the Boards of two companies in Bath, is President of the Royal Crescent Society and Secretary and Treasurer of a charitable foundation which provides Scholarships to budding but impecunious young thespians so that they can receive formal training at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School; it also financially supports Youth Theatre in Street, Somerset and the Battersea Arts Centre in London.
